Brian Harman takes control with 7-under 63 today
Brian Harman takes control of the second day at the Sony Open in Hawaii, after finishing for a T-3rd in the opening round, with a seven-under 63 round today consisting an astonishing eagle on the par-5 9th, six birdies, and a bogey on the par-3 seventh hole.
Harman has already accumulated four-straight top-10 finishes and after the second round of 63 today at Waialae Country Club, he now has a three-shot lead.
“I’m making putts, but I’m also putting myself in position to make those putts,” Harman said after his round. “I’m getting a bunch of looks. I’m not making everything I’m looking at, but I’m hitting a lot of good putts and made a few.”
“I’m just going to show up (Saturday) and try to hit the first tee shot best you can and go from there,” Harman said. “There’s no magic formula. There’s no reason to change. I’m just going to keep doing what I’m doing.”
Zach Johnson led the opening round with Chris Kirk, where they both have moved one spot down from their yesterday’s round. Johnson finished his second round for three-under 67 consisting an eagle on the par-5 9th, three birdies, and two bogeys for today, and is joined by John Peterson, Tom Hoge, and Talor Gooch.
The best shot of the day came from Jordan Spieth who carded a 91-foot birdie on the par-4 5th, and two-under par for the day consisting four birdies and two bogeys, taking his total to three-under 137 and kept his two shots above from the cut line for a T-48th finish, 17 spots up from the opening round. Spieth is joined by Chez Reavie, Dominic Bozzelli, Tony Finau, Jonathan Randolph, Xinjun Zhang, Blayne Barber, J.J. Spaun, Kevin Tway who moved 51 spots today with four-under 66, Vaughn Taylor, Webb Simpson, Jason Kokrak, Lanto Griffin, Roberto Diaz, and Andrew Putnam.
Justin Thomas, the defending champion for the successive week is tied for the 17th spot, three spots upward movement with his round of four-under 66 today consisting an eagle on the par-5 9th, four birdies, and three bogeys. Thomas is joined by Harris English, Gary Woodland, Stewart Cink, Ryan Armour, Hudson Swafford, Jason Dufner, Sam Saunders, Wesley Bryan, Marc Leishman, and Ryan Blaum.
