Taylormade P790 Irons newly launched Forged
Taylormade once again has made a masterpiece in the form of P790 Forged Irons. Now coming to Forged Irons, let us explain that there are two popular methods namely casting and forging. Most of the times people have a stronger belief that Forged Irons feel lighter and softer than a Casted Iron. The Forging Process consists of pounding and melting the club head until it takes the desired shape. Adding to that a number of drilling and machining steps are taken to finish the process. The most important takeaway is that Forged Irons are costlier than Cast Irons and are aimed at better players.
P 790’s have cavity-free construction featuring 8620 Carbon Steel in the body and Forged 4140 Carbon Steel in the club face. According to Tomo Bystedt, senior director of product creation at TaylorMade, the company’s R&D team has made a miraculous piece.
“As you push the COR limit with a standard cavity back iron there are big hurdles to overcome,” Bystedt said. “It’s very difficult to preserve the feel you want while also providing maximum distance. We needed to rethink the construction of the product to achieve our goals.” The rethinking resulted in P790 Irons, ranged from $1299 for Steel and $1499 for Graphite shafts, which manage to produce maximum rebound at impact for super-long distance while presenting a traditional look and soft, forged feel.
The clubface section wraps around to form the leading edge, eliminating the need for a face weld in the lower part. A speed pocket in the sole (3-7 irons) further contributes to performance on low strikes, giving the P790 more forgiveness. The point for the long run of P790 is “Speedfoam”.

“SpeedFoam,” is an injectable vibration dampening material that allows for maximum COR and ball speed off the face at impact with a soft responsive feel, preferred by forged iron players. Speedfoam material is injected via a port on the toe, expands several times to fill the hollow area but weighs just a few grams post it settles.
The new P790 forged irons are also built with a progressive CG location that’s lower in the long irons for improved launch and carry and higher in the short irons for improved accuracy.
The Taylormade P790 Irons will be available from 15th September at stores.
