At the practice round on Tuesday, Cameron Smith had a hunch that they are going to win, he made this comment as he was more confident after seeing his swing and partner Jonas Blixt in best of his game.
It took four extra best ball play-off holes to turn the hunch into reality. Smith birdied at par-5 18th and it decided the fate of first team event in 36 years by PGA as Smith and Blixt defeated Kisner and Brown to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Each player will get credit for the win, which means a lot for 23-year-old Cameron Smith who has now qualified for The Players Championship next week at TPC Sawgrass, his home practice facility- it’s the first for his young career.
For 33 years old Blixt, it’s the third win and according to him, this was the most fun as players really enjoyed the team event. Blixt is roommates with Smith’s caddie and them never really knew each other this well before the beginning of the tournament and entering the same as not the favorites. A lot of it lied with their performance and the week saw the same until the end.
