Taylormade releases Garcia from contract
The Masters Champion Sergio Garcia and Golf Club manufacturer Taylormade have mutually parted there ways after 15 years, and that too before the end of contract.
“Today, after a memorable 15 year partnership with Sergio Garcia, we have mutually agreed on a release from the remaining years of his TaylorMade contract. It has been an honor to play a role in his performance throughout his career, including The PLAYERS Championship, 19 worldwide wins, Ryder Cup heroics and his 2017 Masters win. We congratulate Sergio on a career year and wish him all the best for the future.”
Garcia’s next company
There are early speculations that Garcia might move to Callaway as he was seen using Callaway wedges and Odyssey Toulon Design Putter, owned by Callaway.
The story behind it
Many pundits are claiming this might be a result of Taylormade’s new owners KPS Capital, since the $425 million deal in May, 2017. Garcia has been the face of Taylormade Golf since 2003, when he left Titleist to join it and was a global face for Taylormade for long and with the signing of Rory McIlroy they might have found the man to replace him.
Garcia who won 19 Tournaments including The Players Championship in 2008 and The Masters in 2017 while being in contract with Taylormade.
Other possible reason can be the contract offered to players before the sale of Taylormade Golf was made by Taylormade Adidas Golf rather than Taylormade and other players in similar situation are Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose.
So do we have any more contracts getting over and players making switch? Well for that we have to wait and watch.
Jason Day too might have fallen in this category but he moved to Nike in January this year.
