Day’s third shot with wedge landed on the green and back-spin did the rest stopping just a touch away from the hole giving him the way to win his second Farmers Insurance Open since 2015 and his 11th win on the Tour after The Players Championship in 2016.
“It’s been a long time coming,” Day said. “I know last year wasn’t the best year for me. …I worked hard in the offseason to get back in this position.
Noren posted a bogey after failing to hole it from out and watched Day putting his winner and congratulated him for the win.
Alex Noren would have made it the sixth time when a 54-hole leader won it, thrice it has been done by Tiger Woods himself in 2003, 2008, and 2013, followed Phil Mickelson once.
Palmer, a part of the three-way lead and playoff on Sunday had exited the group after making a par on the first playoff hole. The trio was tied for the lead at 10-under 278.
