Paul Dunne dominates with seven-under-65 at Open de Espana
Paul Dunne dominates the second-round at the Centro Nacional de Golf Club, in Madrid Spain, where the Open de Espana is being played. Dunne posted 66 on Thursday and aided it with a seven-under-65 round consisting nine birdies and two bogeys, taking his total score to 13-under-131, for a three-shot lead over the trio consisting Nacho Elvira, Brett Rumford, and Callum Shinkwin.
England’s Robert Rock and Swedish Henric Sturehed were there at nine-under, a shot clear of Maximillian Kieffer, Pablo Larrabazal, and Jeff Winther.
Winther got off to a flying start, birdieing the first and then picking up four shots in three holes from the third including an eagle on the fifth.
The British Masters champion followed his closing eagle from Thursday with birdies on tenth, 12th, and 15th, another birdie on the 17th added another gain to Dunne, leaving him alone for the lead.
Winther joined him with a gain on the 11th but Dunne birdied the first after a great chip to get to 11-under, and Winther made three back to back bogeys from 12th to slip down.
This made Callum Shinkwin the nearest contender with birdies on 13th, 15th, and 18th, with two-shot back. Dunne bogeyed the second and his lead was cut-short to one and a lengthy eagle putt by Elvira on the fifth saw him just one back too.
The opening round co-leader Marc Warren is tied for the 15th position on the board with a level-par round and is left with six more holes to play.
